Associate Celebrant

This introductory endorsement level is a one-time celebrant status valid for a 90-day period to officiate one or a few humanist ceremonies, usually weddings. If after 90 days you want to continue with this endorsement we encourage you to apply to become a Humanist Celebrant, in which case, your application fee and reference requirement will be waived. Associate Celebrants are granted the rights equivalent to ordained clergy allowing them to legally perform weddings under the jurisdiction of the law within their state and subject to clergy confidentiality.

  • Initial 2 Year Endorsement
  • Strong understanding of humanism
  • Commitment to humanist values
  • Public speaking experience strongly preferred
  • perform an average of one ceremony per year+
  • Understanding of celebrant role
  • Completed Application
  • $40 Application Fee
  • Continual Membership with the American Humanist Association
  • Three complete references
  • Phone Interview
  • Approval from Endorsement Committee
  • $100 Annual Professional Fee (after approval)

Humanist Celebrants may legally perform weddings as well as preside over memorials, coming-of-age, child welcomings and other life milestone ceremonies. Humanist Celebrants have the rights equivalent to ordained clergy, allowing them to legally perform weddings under the jurisdiction of the law within their state and subject to clergy confidentiality.

Senior Celebrant

$ 500 00 One-Time Professional Fee
  • Strong understanding of humanism
  • Commitment to humanist values
  • Holds a Humanist Society Endorsement for 10+ years
  • Has performed 100+ ceremonies (of any kind)
  • Willingness to serve the Humanist Celebrant community via giveback to the Humanist Society
  • Completed Application
  • Continual Membership with the American Humanist Association
  • Phone Interview
  • Approval from Endorsement Committee
  • One-time $500 Professional Fee

This Endorsement Level is for seasoned professional Humanist Celebrants. Successful applicants will have demonstrated a strong commitment to humanist values, and desire to serve the community in accordance with these values. They will have developed strong celebrant skills via extensive experience with one or more kinds of ceremonies. This endorsement is a lifetime endorsement with no expiration date.
